Pink Star is Awarded to Catherine Hagan Aylor

The Affiliate Board was proud to recognize Catherine Hagan-Aylor at the Inaugural Greater Roanoke Race for the Cure, by presenting her with the first “Pink Star Award”. Pink Star Award Catherine was instrumental in founding the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Affiliate in Southwestern Virginia. Without her leadership and involvement there would NOT be an Affiliate or a Race. Catherine has not only been essential to the founding of this Affiliate but she has also been a key force improving breast care throughout our area. There are women alive today because of her vision, enthusiasm and untiring efforts. Catherine personifies the cause we all support, “To end breast cancer forever.” The Board of Directors thanks and congratulates Catherine with this first Pink Star Award.

Catherine Hagan, RN, MSN, currently is a Clinical Nurse Specialist with Carilion Breast Care Center.  She has been involved with breast cancer care for 16 years.  She learned about Komen as the coordinator of the Presbyterian Cancer Center’s Breast Program in Charlotte, N. C. serving on the Board for several years.  After moving to Roanoke, it was her passion and detertmination that got others involved and got this Affiliate started.  Catherine said, “I became so passionate as I saw what awareness the Race raised and how the money could really help in the community. ” Catherine says that she is honored to receive the award and that she will never forget the experience of seeing the first Race here in the Valley and seeing the faces of so many that it has touched.
