Small Grant Applications Are Being Accepted

Small Grants Program

The Virginia Blue Ridge Affiliate is pleased to announce that applications currently are being accepted for Small Program Grants, Conference Grants and Travel Scholarships. The purpose of the Small Grants Program is to allow funding requests for small amounts that promote Komen’s promise and increase the capacity of effective breast health programs.  The Conference Grants program furthers the Komen mission by supporting local scientific or educational conferences, symposia and meetings.  Travel reimbursement scholarships provide travel assistance to grantees, health care professionals, and advocates to attend, participate in, and/or present at meetings, conferences or symposia.  Small grants are generally for programs or events that are of short duration.

  • Small Program Grants - initiating new programs or testing original ideas increasing the innovative capacity and effectiveness of breast health programs serving one or more of the priority populations as defined by the Community Profile. Applicants may request up to $3,000.
  • Conference Grants - supporting local scientific or educational conferences, especially those enhancing the interaction between the advocate, healthcare and scientific communities. Breast cancer must be the sole or significant subject of the conference. For conferences dealing partially on breast cancer, award funding may be applied only to the breast cancer portion of the program. Applicants may request up to $3,000.
  • Travel Scholarships - assisting health care professionals and advocates to attend, participate in and/or present at meetings, conferences or symposia increasing community knowledge of breast cancer and facilitating the exchange of ideas and communication between the scientific community and the general public. Applicants may request up to $1,000.

Applicants must be located in or serving communities within the Virginia Blue Ridge Affiliate Service Area.

The Affiliate will consider Small Grants applications on a rolling basis throughout the year. Funding decisions will be made based on Affiliate priorities, quality of the application, and budget allowances. Once all available funds have been distributed for a given calendar year, we are unable to award more funds during that year. Should unexpected additional funding become available, new grant awards will be considered in special circumstances.

Award notifications are generally made within 6-8 weeks after receipt of the application, so plan your submission accordingly.
